After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to close the Hey Kids Comics! retail store at the end of December. We are happy to report, however, it is most definitely not the end of Hey Kids Comics! as a whole. Throughout 2025 we will continue to publish the Hey Kids Comics Zine, will continue to sell great graphic novels via our online store on Bookshop.org, will participate in more conventions and pop-up markets, and will be posting more often here on the Hey Kids Comics Substack.
The store has been an incredibly special place for us, and it makes us happy to know that it has been for our customers as well. It has been a joy to get to know so many of you and your families and to bond over our shared love of the “sequential arts.” Our passion for this medium and our enthusiasm for playing a role in empowering kids to use it is bigger than the 250 square feet of retail space we currently occupy, so you can be sure that we will be looking for new and interesting ways to make an impact.
But for now, let’s face the music and dance! We will be open through November and December for holiday shopping. We have several in-store events happening in December, including the release party for the 4th issue of the Hey Kids Comics Zine! So dig up that HKC gift card you almost forgot about and come on by for one last spin around the shop!
Thanks to everyone who supported our store these past three years: from our loyal customers to the folks who just stumbled upon us while walking down the street, from the authors who trekked to us for readings & signings to the people who cheered us on via social media. You made it all worthwhile.
As they say in the comics:

This was a gut-punch to both Cal and me. When he read this post, he cried, and tearily said, it's not fair. Thanks for creating a such a special community space. We were lucky that it coincided with Cal's formative reading years, and I haven't a doubt that Hey Kids Comics played a huge roll in his taking up reading so quickly and passionately. Thanks, Fletcher, Karen and Jason. We'll be watching closely for your future endeavors.
